Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 is a conjugate of palmitic acid and a peptide with the GHK sequence (labeled Pal-GHK). The binding action allows Tripeptide-1 to penetrate the skin barrier and signal cells to enhance collagen production. Studies have shown enhanced stimulation of the synthesis of ECM components, primarily collagen and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), and significant reductions in wrinkle length, depth, and roughness. Therefore, it is often combined with Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 (a tetrapeptide with the GQPR sequence; possibly labeled PA1-GQPR) to enhance its effects and increase its effectiveness. This combination is comparable in activity to retinoids, but has the distinct advantage of not causing skin irritation.
