The UPC-A code is used for general commodities. It is a commodity bar code formulated by the American Uniform Code Council. It is mainly used in the United States and Canada, and it is also the most widely applicable UPC code. UPC-A code is a fixed-length code. The supported character set is 0-9 digits, which can only represent 12 digits (1 system symbol, 5 manufacturer codes, 5 product codes, 1 check code). UPC-A commodity bar code symbols from left to right, followed by start character, left data character, middle separator, right data character, check character, and terminator, as shown in the figure. The minimum width of the blank area on the left and right sides of the UPC-A code is 9 modules wide, and the other structure is the same as that of the EAN-13 commodity bar code.
The 6 barcode characters on the left side of the UPC-A barcode are all composed of barcode characters of subset A, and the right data character and check digit are all composed of barcode characters of subset C. This is the UPC-A barcode, that is, UPC -A barcode is a special form of EAN-13 barcode. UPC-A barcode is compatible with N1='0' in EAN-13 barcode. It also shows that UPC-A barcode has bidirectional readability because of the barcodes on the left and right sides. Characters are composed of barcode characters of different subsets, so no matter which side you read from, you can quickly identify the corresponding left and right sides. The first numeric character on the left side of the UPC-A barcode is the system character, and the last character is the check character. They are placed outside the start character and the stop character respectively; and, the bar code character representing the system character and check character The length is equal to the bar length of the terminator.
