正如小编在上一篇文中所提到的，在英语里，有许多词语的词素完全相同，但因排列的顺序相反，意义就不相同或大不一样。值得注意的是，有个别词语在词序颠倒后，其意义并没有很大的变化，looker-on和onlooker就是其中一例。这两个词都作“旁观者”解，即：someone who watches an activity or event from a distance without taking part in it.
looker-on，onlooker它们的唯一区别是，前者大都指随意在一旁观看的人，如在马路上或公园里闲看的人；后者指故意在一旁观看者，如看人下棋或打架的人。
looker-on的复数形式是1ookers-on；onlooker的复数形式是onlookers。
