Lately, many tea shops in Guangdong have revived the local name for this fruit, which is often called "chicken poop fruit": guava. Varieties like cream guava have become the latest sensation due to their delightful sweet and tangy flavor as well as efficient distribution. They have subtly infused the lives of numerous Chinese people with their aroma. But don't worry too much, it also goes by a more widely recognized name: guanabana.
Guanabana hails from South America and was introduced to China towards the end of the 17th century. Today, it is widely found in Fujian, Guangdong, and Taiwan. Guanabana resembles an irregularly shaped pear with a rough and tart skin. Most white-fleshed ones are crunchy while red-fleshed ones are tender and sweet. Both types carry the captivating fragrance of tropical fruits.
This year, guanabana (guava) has become a new favorite at tea shops and among young people in China. It's bound to be featured in new products at various beverage stores! As a flavorful fruit, guava can enhance the flavors of other fruits, leading to various ways of enjoying it such as "guava + fruit" or "guava + different types of tea or sparkling water".
